Masada Mazal, owned by Anita & Harry Polk of College Grove,
has been awarded a US National Top Ten in Sport Horse Show
Hack! He has been trained exclusively by Jill Girardi Thomas
and stands at Brookhill Farm in Franklin, Tennessee, USA.
M&M, as he is known to his family, is one of approximately
250 remaining straight Babson Egyptian horses in the world.
Since Bint Arroufa in 1966, fewer than ten Straight Babson
Egyptians have won North American national titles, according
to researcher Arlene Magid. The Babson Egyptian Arabian, as
we now title those Arabians whose bloodlines trace
exclusively to Henry Babson’s historic 1932 importation to
America, is categorized by the Arabian horse community as Al
Khamsa, Straight Egyptian, and Early American Foundation.
Masada Mazal is also Heirloom, Blue List Eligible, and
Sheykh Obeyd. Babson horses are known for their athletic
abilities, correct conformation, quiet willing dispositions,
and classic beauty.
2011 Egyptian Event attendees will remember Masada Mazal for
his Reserve Championship in Native Costume and Markel
Performance Award / Show Hack Exhibition. Show Hack is
essentially a dressage class held on the rail and M&M has
excelled in this as he has matured into a stallion with
powerful and extreme movement. Trainer Jill Girardi Thomas
notes “Masada Mazal is an excellent representation of his
pedigree and a joy to work with. He is well balanced, with a
very strong and masculine profile. His tail carriage,
movement, and elegance make him a standout in the ring. 2011
was his first time to compete at a U.S. Nationals, and he
handled being in the ring with a high number of horses like
a complete gentleman.”
Congrats to
Andrea Cole on her horses' wins at Sport Horse Nationals!

Faax
El Din Celebrates 35th Birthday
It is not often that one has
the opportunity to celebrate the 35th birthday of a horse.
However, Faax El Din, a 1976 foal by Fakher El Hamal out of
Kimbrook Kameo, is the horse of a life time and provided
just such an opportunity for me. Surrounded by his human
family and friends long important to his life, our group
enjoyed food, fellowship and fun remembering lessons taught
and learned, shows won and lost and the family that only a
great horse can knit together as we celebrated a grand “old
man” in style. This horse, who has now grouses at me twice
daily at feeding time, has moved me from tears of happiness
to tears of anger sometimes all in the same day. But at his
age, every day I am thankful for the blessing that one more
day with him provides. Thank you Faax for all the memories.
May you be around for many, many more.

Arabians Rock!
Allusive Angel and
Poseidon's Promise take Year End High Point Awards in
Timberlane Farm's Open Hunter/Jumper Show Series

Half-Arabian
mare Aallusive Angel and Anglo-Arabian gelding Poseidon's
Promise dispelled any myths about their ability to compete
in the open hunter/jumper world during a recent awards
dinner. MTAHA members Hope Ellis-Ashburn & Carissa Ramsdell
along with Hope's daughter Maddie proudly display awards and
ribbons won during the November Timberlane Farm Open
Hunter/Jumper Shows Series Championship Awards Banquet held
on November 13, 2010 at Clearview Farm in Shelbyville, TN.
Maddie competed the Half-Arabian mare Aallusive Angel in the
Walk Hunter Under Saddle and Walk Hunt Seat Equitation on
the Flat classes winning (4) firsts, (1) second and (1)
third place awards in just three shows. Hope, competing on
the same mare, won (3) Championship, (10) first, (2) third,
(2) fourth and (3) sixth place awards in addition to the
Baby Green Hunter (2') Series Division Championship in just
four shows. This concluded a spectacular show season for the
Ashburn family and Aallusive Angel as in addition to the
above awards, Hope and Angel also won the Hunter/Jumper,
Recreational Rider and Recreational Horse divisions in the
MTAHA High Point Awards program and leveled up twice this
year in the Arabian Horse Association's Open Event Incentive
Program.
Carissa Ramsdell, competing on the Anglo-Arabian gelding
Poseidon's Promise (aka "Boston"), won the Hopeful Hunter
(2' 3") Division Series Division Championship.

This year was a trying one
for Poseidon's Promise ("Boston", 11 year old Anglo-Arabian)
and owner Carissa Ramsdell. Between baffling middle
tennessee equine hospitals with a mysterious condition (now
identified as "suture line periostitis"; a benign
inflammation of the suture lines connecting the nasal and
skull bones with no known cause), correcting a life
inadequate farrier care, and Carissa having been injured
from a car wreck, showing was not a priority on the list of
things to do. However, they were determined to end their
year on a high note, and that they most certainly did!
October started with winning
first and second in their respective dressage classes in the
Central TN Dressage Association show at Brandyrun Farm,
taking the win in Combined Training at the Jaeckle Center (BN-A)
with an end on their dressage score of 32 (a 68% dressage
equivalent; and their personal best!), winning first in a
very competitive jumper class at the same show, and ending
the month by winning high point Champion in Timberlane
Farm's show series in the Hopeful Hunter division certainly
made up for the rough months prior!
Be looking for the pair to take on the 2'6"-2'9" Jumpers,
and moving up a level in both dressage and Eventing in 2011;
proving that Arabians truly are well rounded, versatile, and
loyal friends and partners!
